Would you want to be friends, or housemates, with yourself?

Posted on Aug 22nd, 2007 by Nikki : Traveler Nikki
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 22, 2007:

But, I AM housemates with myself ;D  But, as far as finding a double of myself, I would be relatively easy to live with.  I'm quiet, caring, compassionate, and pretty unobtrusive in living situations when it comes down to it.  I'm relatively clean (although, in my small apartment, one paper out of place makes the whole place look like a mess), and if something ever happened, I know I could rely on my other self for comfort.  So, long term, I would be a great roommate.  But in real life I enjoy living and meeting people that are different from myself, just to add to the experiences of my life.  Living with myself (as I know from experience) can be rather boring without outside personalities in one's life.  I've had a small string of different roommates, and they have all been unique and interesting to live with and have definitely added to my life :)

New Organizer for Buddhist group

Posted on Aug 21st, 2007 by Nikki : Traveler Nikki
The Buddhist group from meetup.com in my town was in danger of collapse.  The organizer was moving away and, since it is still summer, the attendance has dropped off.  So, instead of letting this nice little group fall into extinction, I took over as organizer.  I by no means have a leadership personality, but, once again, I find myself in a leadership position.
Previously, our meetups consisted of chatting and figuring out what to do in our group, most of which didn't get done, trips to temples, volunteer work, and the like.  Not much happened, butI always found just getting together very enjoyable.
I'm trying to come up with ideas to get involvment back up, but I come to the sneaking suspicion that many people out there are sort of lazy.  I was hoping for a turn towards educational meetings, everyone bringing something to the table (in a theme, a certain aspect of buddhism, a sect that they are interested in, etc) and giving a little presentation to the rest of the group and then discussion.  Things like that.  I'm worried that they expect me to do everything (between school and work, I'm definitely in no position to even TRY that).  I'm probably less knowledgable about Buddhism than many of them in the group.  I'm sure it is just my insecurities coming out though, everyone in the past has been more than helpful and supportive.  I just need to come up with something to keep it going!

I feel like this is the place to keep record of my exploits in this matter, even though I don't know anyone here  :)  More of a personal journal if you will.

Book Club

Posted on Apr 24th, 2007 by Nikki : Traveler Nikki
I don't really use this site, but I think it has potential and I would like too.  It just simply be too many things to keep up with though.

Anyway, thought I would post about my new endeavor, Denton Buddhist Book Club.  A book club for my Buddhism meetup group here, but mostly online and open to everyone!  Anywhere!  It's slow on the start up, but it just needs more people, feel free to check it out!
